History

When I was a teen, I was led to believe that I was the daughter of Zeus, so I went along with that narrative and eventually, I became a superhero. I even became a sidekick of Wonder Woman! Then years passed by, I found out that I was her granddaughter instead. My mother fooled around with an Olympian dropout, who I barely know. Honestly, a part of me wanted that I was never even related to them, because of all the complicated deity drama. But I can't run away from my roots, and I don't regret the paths I've taken.

Cassandra "Cassie" Sandsmark (born May 1995) was born the daughter of American curator and archeologist Helena Sandsmark and Lennox, a bastard son of Zeus—the Greek All-Father. However, Lennox took on a mortal appearance similar to man-made portraits and sculptures of Zeus, a trait that made him catch Helena's attention during their first meeting. An adventurous demigod who has fled Olympus, Lennox was a curious visitor who attended Helena's seminar about the lesser-known figures of Greek mythology as a graduate school student at the National Archaeological Museum.

After their first encounter, the two hit it off and somehow fell in love within a week since Helena thought that he was simply too charming and too knowledgeable with Greek myth and legend, telling them in a way like he witnessed such tales. The only thing was, Lennox left her life even before Helena could find out more about her partner. Not long after, she would later find out that she was pregnant with his child. Despite her resentment towards the man she only knew as Leo Zisiopoulos, she decided to keep the child as her own, naming her Cassandra after the figure in Greek mythology.

In her youth, Cassie wanted to believe that she was either the daughter of the Greek god due to her birth father's deception or simply a Greek man since her mother was an traveler and archaeologist across the world. While some of Cassie's friends considered her to be living a lucky and luxurious life since she often went with her mom on her trips, it was a kind of burden for Cassie since she was a child. She didn't mind being raised by a single mother, although the reality that she had to moved to different schools from town to town during her mother's researches and expeditions made Cassie's childhood and early adolescence a little more tough than most of youth. There were some perks to growing up with a semi-absent smart mother, at least to Cassie herself. For one, she believed that gaining a good amount of knowledge about history and mythology from her mom's studies and books helped her get through school, even if she had to keep on transferring from one to another almost after every second semester of class.

However, such experience also gradually hone in her social skills. Cassie grew up to be an extroverted and adventurous girl, who was secretly afraid of connecting with others, believing that her life would not allow her to make friends, at least not for long before she moves. On one of her mother's most, if not her most crazier expedition in the Gateway City of Museum, Cassie met her mother's associate and friend, fellow curator and historian Diana Prince. However, Cassie also witnessed a fear-induced entity known as Decay ravaging the area when the superhero Wonder Woman arrived just in time to fight it. But as she witnessed the hero get overwhelmed, the teen felt the urge to help her battle the noncorporeal Decay and its spawns. In the heat of the moment, Cassie acquired both the Sandals of Hermes and the Gauntlet of Atlas before charging into battle. While Cassie's mother was terrified for her kid's safety, her selfless actions impressed Diana, something that she had not seen since her previous sidekick and younger sister, Donna Troy, formerly known as Wonder Girl.

When Diana unveiled her true identity to Cassie, the Amazon also revealed to the kid about her paternal lineage as a "Daughter of Zeus" through a magical connection that they've both felt since they first met at the museum. Thrilled and enamored by such a life-changing discovery, Cassie accepted Wonder Woman's offer to train and teach her the ways of her people, even help her meet her father in Olympus. Of course, their newfound mentorship wasn't without any misgivings from Cassie's mother, who strongly opposed to let her be on her own at first. But, instead of arguing back, like they often do, Cassie made her point that even her mother knew little about her patrilineage and pleaded to let her do something that she wanted to do. While Helena was heartbroken for hearing such words from her daughter, she was able to put herself in her shoes and making her understand without always blaming her own flaws as a mother. After their moment of reconciliation, Cassie officially begun her training under Diana and eventually succeeded the mantle of Wonder Girl.
