History[]

Elizabeth "Beth" Chapel (born February, 1994) was the eldest child, and only daughter, of Reverend James Chapel and his wife, successful cardiothoracic surgeon Bridget Chapel. Shortly after her birth her parents moved to Blue Valley, Nebraska when her mother was offered a job by Blue Valley Medical Center to become the chair of their cardiology department. Thus when she was still A baby she became a resident of the mid-western town. After which her younger brothers Matthew, Mark, Luke, and finally John were born in quick a succession. Leading to Beth, as the oldest, to always try and set a good example for her brothers growing up. All of whom were more like theirs and Beth's father James, in that they preferred spirituality and the fine arts. However Beth was more like her mother and preferred science. Which came easy to her with her high intelligence. Though this often made her a target for bullies and left her isolated amongst her peers in school. Save for a few, like her childhood friend Rick Tyler. Who Beth learned when they were teenagers had superpowers.

Shortly after which she found herself involved with the superhero team the Justice Society of America, who was under attack by a man known as Baron Krieger and his Nazi group known as the Fourth Reich, after they kidnapped her in an effort to draw out the heroes, not only including Rick, but her new friend Courtney Whitmore.

In the ensuing battle during her rescue, which took place in an old chemical plant, Beth got involved in an accident and suffered irreversible damage to her eyes. But on the other hand she soon discovered, thanks to the very same accident, she could now see in the dark. Taking note of this she was approached by Dr. Charles McNider, who saw Beth as a kindred spirit, and offered her a chance to take up his legacy. A chance Beth took. Thus she became the second to wear the mantle of Doctor Mid-Nite and alongside her friends formed the third iteration of the JSA.
