History
Perhaps my argument in the courtroom wasn't convincing enough. You're one of those who think they're so above the law, they think they can fly high and soar like crooked maniacs whenever, wherever they want... Well, you have a point. Just don't mind the arrow pointing straight to your head. That's only a warning. You wouldn't mind meeting my fists instead, would you?
- --Huntress
Helena Wayne (born December 2012) was the daughter of Bruce Wayne, vigilante and detective known as Batman, and Selina Kyle, thief-turned-crimefighter under the moniker of Catwoman. Helena was born and raised in the final years of a generation known as the "Golden Age of Heroes," as her parents and their allies were among its pioneers for decades before most of them decided to settle down with their families or simply retire, seeing how most of the current and some of younger generation of superpowered people on Earth had dedicated themselves to bettering society in an era with no threatening presence of supervillains or criminal masterminds in the past decade. However, Helena's parents were overprotective when she first showed interest and passion towards fighting crime and bringing lawbreakers to justice. Yet since Helena grew up being closer to her mother, a caring and understanding Selina did her best to introduce her own daughter to the basics of combat and gadgetry without completely endangering her, a decision that Bruce would reluctantly agree to since he saw the natural talent in Helena and neither he nor his wife cold truly suppress the curiosity and compassion of their daughter from wanting to do the right thing.
While training and learning with her parents satisfied Helena at first, it ended up making her yearn for more, especially as she reached her teenage years. Despite her parents' teachings and warnings not to go outside without their notice, Helena ventured outside on her own when both her parents weren't home as they were most likely dealing with global-level threats with the rest of their team of fellow superheroes, the Wonders of the World. One night, after turning on the Batcave's dispatch system and hearing a robbery in progress, Helena suited up one of the old Robin outfits and headed to the scene of the crime to stop the robbers, which she was able to do successfully. Helena fought the robbers with most of what she has learned from the best of both worlds, but they weren't the only perpetrators there. In would turn out that they were merely goons and henchmen doing the bids of the real masterminds who were also responsible for distracting the heroes who were in active patrol.
Batman eventually saw through the ruse, but it was too late while he was piloting the Batwing. He was shot down and beaten to a pulp by a mysterious superpowered thug by the name of Bill Jensen, who claimed that he ruined his life for sending him to prison. Helena rushed to help her injured father, but two were cornered by an armed gang, apparently led by councilman Sebastian "Silkface" Hampton as he appeared to them. At the last second, Catwoman dove into the scene as she took a couple of bullets from the armed men aiming at her daughter and husband, although she was able to take the assailants down nonetheless. While the threat was averted and most criminals were brought to the authorities, Selina's sacrifice broke the hearts of her family, closest friends and allies, most especially Helena and Bruce's. Since Selina's passing, the relationship between her husband and daughter would drift away at first, yet the passage of time would allow for the two to slowly reconcile as Helena grew up into adulthood as a rebellious yet upstanding individual, a trait that Bruce also saw in her mother.
In honor of her mother's memory, Helena dedicated herself to studying at law school in hopes to expose the crimes of shady, corrupt, and two-faced individuals and bring them down without getting away from the court's due process, like Hampton when he got away after claiming his innocence about Catwoman's murder and his involvement in the state-wide attacks by pulling some strings in his connections with Gotham's richest and most influential lawbreakers, including the very judge who handles his trial. But realizing such flaws of the justice system made Helena also resort to living another life, similar to his parents during their prime, by continuing to pursue and investigate crimes often overlooked or covered up by most of the corrupt enforcement under a suit that sought to incorporate the elements and material from the Batman, Catwoman, and Robin suits. During her first lone missions, she would end up meeting her father's associates, heroes who used to form the Batman Family when her parents were still active. After hearing out different pieces of advice and asking for their mentorship, in spite of reluctance from some of them, Helena once again became a crimefighter initially behind her father's back and began hunting down criminals who had yet to be exposed by the authorities due to their connections and hidden bases, adopting the name of Huntress.
During her first encounters against the new criminal underground of Gotham, Helena exerted more brutality in dealing with crooks, knowing that it would intimidate their bosses and masters. While she held herself from ever killing, her methods eventually led to her own father to reveal that he already knew about her vigilantism for months and decided to warn her about the fact most of superheroes could no longer operate as they please unless they were advised or called on by law enforcement, and doing so without supervision would only make her a wanted vigilante while the real enemies sit and attack from the sidelines, thanks to their connections with corrupt figures. While Bruce couldn't stop Helena from wanting to do the right thing, like he and her mother tried to before, he directly offered her guidance and mentorship alongside some of the active Batman Family members, further encouraging Helena to balance her life as a lawyer-in-training and a crimefighter. Operating as the Huntress allowed Helena to meet and befriend some of the current generation of heroes, most notably Green Canary, Wildcat, Star-Spangled Kid, and her eventual best friend: Supergirl.
