History[]
Formed during the years of World War II the Justice Society of America was in fact the first modern superhero team to ever exist. However due to the circumstances of the times they lived in most of their heroic deeds, and other actions, would go unrecognized for decades.
Born in 1942, shortly after the United States of America joined the war efforts against the Axis powers, Imperial Japan, and the Nazi Party, the JSA was at first a top-secret United States organization comprised of individuals with unique abilities to help and assist not only their own countrymen, but the other Allied powers as well, in combating enemy meta-humans and magic users. Mostly deployed by the Third Reich. Who their leader, Adolf Hitler, had had conducting various inhumane experiments as well as collecting occult relics for years, since they both his hobbies and he thought it could not only help him and his followers win the war but control the entire world.
To prevent this from happening the greatest fighting force the world had seen in modern times was put together. The first members of the Justice Society of America consisting of Doctor Mid-Nite (Charles McNider), Flash (Jay Garrick) Alan Scott, who in his earliest days as a masked hero went by the name Green Lantern, Starman, Sandman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and finally Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson). Once these brave individuals were assembled they were almost immediately thrown into the proverbial fire, conducting missions directly assigned to them by president Roosevelt himself. Missions that saved more lives than most would ever know.
Though the members of the JSA would never forget their actions so long as they lived. Which was good enough for them. Since they had no qualms about what they were doing. Even as they encountered more and more strange and strong adversaries as the war went on. Like the ancient sorcerer Wotan. But along with more enemies came new allies. Such as the android created to destroy them by the brilliant scientist T.O. Morrow, but overcome its programming and joined them as a member instead, Red Tornado. Along with the Amazonian princess who was dispatched to re-capture the Greek God Ares, and a future founding member of the Justice League, Wonder Woman. Who even after completing her mission stayed and fought at the JSA's side. Becoming an honorary member by the time her days with them came to an end.
Which happened just a few weeks after World War II ended. But despite the war being over it didn't mean the JSA's work was done. Continuing fighting for America and its allies they continued their activities and began facing off against Communism and the Iron Curtain it had created in Europe. Though this all came to an end in 1951 when even the heroes couldn't escape the "Red Scare" and were told to present themselves before HUAC. In their civilian identities.
Out right refusing to comply the JSA came to a decision. They erased all information regarding their existence and relationship with the government and almost all of their members, save a few like Jay Carrick and Kent Nelson, stopped their super heroic activities. Thus bringing an abrupt end to the group that had changed the fate of the world numerous time.
At least until the 1970's when the group was revived. Due to the efforts of the Sanderson Hawkins, the ward and nephew of the original Sandman Wesley Dodds, who felt the world needed heroes once again. In no small part due to the fact he was a Metahuman and wanted to use his powers to for something greater than himself. So with that, and a few other things in mind, Sanderson assembled a new JSA that consisted of other legacies like himself such as the inheritor of the Cosmic Staff, Sylvester Pemberton, who would go on to become the hero known as Starman, and new heroes such as the heavyweight boxer Ted Grant, known as Wildcat, and Dinah Drake, the first Black Canary. Together with a few others they created the second iteration of the Justice Society of America and went on several adventures over her years. Until once again the society entered a hiatus period. Namely due to the murder of Dinah in 1994. Which would go unsolved for at least a decade.
But despite all the Justice Society of America had faced and endured the groups overall spirit never dissipated, and once more it came back stronger than ever in mid 2008 when the JSA was revived again, this time due to its members and those closest to them being targeted by one of their old foes. A Nazi supersoldier named Baron Krieger who had spent decades forming a group known as the Fourth Reich, to continue the Nazi's work and goals from World War II. However that did not come to pass as they were defeated. Not only by older the older generations of the Justice Society, but by its newest generation composed of young heroic youths. Which included the twin children of the Green Lantern, Alan Scott, Jennie-Lynn Haden and Todd Rice, the new wielder of the Cosmic Staff and Pat Dugans' step-daughter Courtney Whitmore, the son of the original Hourman Rick Tyler, the goddaughter of Wildcat, Yolanda Montez, who also took on his hero name for herself, and finally a young girl named Beth Chapel, who was christened as the New Doctor Mid-Nite.
Then after these children became heroes they would not go back and soon the Justice Society of America became a public superhero team. Slowly beginning to reveal the actions they took to save the world, and the lives of innocents, over the decades since it was born.
