History

SIS (Superhuman Investigative Service) is an organisation, set up by the UN, to govern the growing number of superhumans, especially criminals, that fly below the radar of major heroes like Superman, or the larger factions, like the Justice League. They operate with impunity to the law and are recognized by all countries as an official Law Enforcement Agency. Many members of the SIS are not cleared for field duty, given they are facing against superhumans, despite this the agency has recruited, or conscripted, many people capable of handling superhumans adversaries. Their first recruits called themselves Justice 2.0, they were a group of scientists in Coral City, Georgia who were each imbued with various powers of some members of the Justice League, this was because they were performing experiments on their blood to look for cures to various diseases when a particle accelerator, much like the one that gave Barry Allen his abilities, exploded. While not as strong, The Wave created engulfed the entire planet. But the seven scientists in the lab were affected, probably due to the fact that they were in the epicenter of the blast.

Justice 2.0 consists of

  • Mercer Kovacs A.K.A Sunburst, who gained Clark Kent/Superman's abilities of flight, heat vision and superhuman reflexes. He was killed by Romulus during the Built in a Day storyline, but was resurrected by Cu Sith as Moonshine
  • Helen Jones A.K.A D.I. Noire, who gained Bruce Wayne/Batman's heightened perception, hearing and deduction skills. She was killed by Romulus during the Built in a Day storyline, but was resurrected by Cu Sith as Officer Shade.
  • Daniel Strong A.K.A Crossbolt, who gained Oliver Queen/Green Arrow's natural talent for archery and above average agility.
  • Danielle 'Danii' Rook A.K.A Blur, who gained Barry Allen/The Flash's superhuman speed, stamina and connection to the Speed Force.
  • James Strong A.K.A The Janissary, who gained Diana Prince/Wonder Woman's talent for sword fighting, as well as indestructible skin. He was killed by Romulus during the Built in a Day storyline, but was resurrected by Cu Sith as Otto Madman
  • Barry DeCosta A.K.A Barry Kuda, who gained Arthur Curry/Aquaman's ability to breathe underwater and a limited degree of Hydrokinesis. He was killed by Romulus, during the Built in a Day storyline, but was later resurrected by Cu Sith as Mr. Orca
  • Tara Ebert A.K.A Ta-Da, who gained Billy Batson/Shazam's superhuman speed and strength, as well as Electrokinesis.

To bolster their numbers however, several superhumans were conscripted by the UN. They are collectively known as The Uncaged. These were mostly people affected by the explosions wave, but were not directly within the blast zone..

The Uncaged consists of

  • Phil Davis A.K.A Chief Justice, who gained telepathy and telekinesis, and used these powers, particularly the former, to assist churchgoers during confession. He was a church pastor prior to joining the SIS.
  • Roman Schrieve and Richard Schrieve A.K.A Romulus and Remus(respectively), only one of these twins gained powers from The Wave, Richard is able to absorb and/or redirect most forms of energy, however, his brother, Roman, agreed to join to help using his vast intellect and expert leadership skills. They are killed by Electrode during the Built in a Day storyline, but are resurrected by Cu Sith as Red Rufus and Grey Canis, respectively.
  • Jonathan Goodman A.K.A Nexus, who gained the ability to create portals at will, unfortunately he has to walk around in tinted glasses when he is off duty as the portals which have replaced his eyes disturb a great many passersby. He was a builder in Toronto prior to joining the SIS. He becomes romantically involved with Swyft after the events of Built in a Day.
  • Catharine Lister A.K.A Catalyst, who gained a form of Pyrokinesis which lets her control the heat of various areas and objects, as well as control over an object's speed. She was a volunteer chemistry teacher and medical doctor working in East Africa prior to joining the SIS.
  • Maria Mendez A.K.A The Steam Punk, while not affected by The Wave, was recruited for her ingenuity, high intelligence and abilities as a mechanic and handywoman. She worked as a handywoman in Santa Fe, New Mexico prior to joining the SIS. She becomes romantically involved with Electrode during the events of Built in a Day.
  • Jules Madsen A.K.A Electrode, while not affected by The Wave, instead had his abilities developing within himself from a young age, he is able to control electrical currents, he was recruited after being apprehended by The Steam Punk for robbing a bank in Boise, Idaho. He was living unemployed in Boise prior to being conscripted into the SIS. He sacrifices himself to kill both Remus and Romulus during the events of Built in a Day, but is resurrected by Cu Sith as Black Current.
  • Layla Aibnat A.K.A Nightchild is an Israeli-born Vampire. She refuses to share her actual age with anybody, keeping the guise of a 14 year-old child going. Her night vision and degree of transparency is believed to be an effect of The Wave.

Adversaries list:

Despite being a fairly young agency the SIS already has a short list of main adversaries that continue to evade capture.

  • Ian Thorpe A.K.A Dr Entropy, formerly Catharine Lister's medical consultant, The Wave caused him to go mad and he was confined to a mental institution where his powers finally surfaced, his knowledge of Biochemistry and an acidic touch makes Dr Entropy a highly dangerous individual, given he leaves piles of primordial soup when he steals various assortments of chemicals for an as-of-yet unknown purpose.
  • Jacob Reed A.K.A Kangaroo Jack, previously an Olympic level jumper from Australia who fell on hard times after a slew of losses in various regional competitions and turned to a life of crime, after The Wave he discovered the natural strength of his legs and his jumping ability had increased greatly, able to leap 2 story houses at a standing jump and kick through a brick wall, he uses these to raid any places that would hold goods or money and is always able to get away afterwards.
  • Michael McCloud A.K.A SayTir was a convicted rapist and serial killer in his home country of Ireland before being affected by The Wave, which gave him unnatural stamina and an ability to blend into his surroundings, escaping prison, raping and murdering his ex-wife who testified against him in court, he travels around the world continuing his, as he calls it, fun, wherever he goes. No images of his face have surfaced since his escape.
  • Leonhard Durer A.K.A Ser Keht, an Austrian historian before The Wave gained superhuman strength and endurance, upon visiting Egypt shortly after with his daughter, Beth, many superstitious locals began claiming him as the human incarnation of the goddess Serket, demanding he and his daughter take their rightful place as the rulers of the Kingdom of Egypt, he has been trying to overthrow the governments of North-East Africa and South West-Asia ever since.
  • Beth Durer A.K.A Beph Ohmet, the daughter of Leonhard Durer, Beth was also affected by The Wave giving her superhuman agility, speed and reflexes she is almost never seen doing anything that doesn't assist her father's goal of conquering and ruling most of the Afro-Arab region.
  • Jean de Marigot A.K.A Fliqour, a skilled thief, and wine connoisseur, before being altered by The Wave, which gave him Photokinesis, he is now much more crafty and talented than he was previously, using his new boon to it's fullest extent and constantly pushing himself to use it more creatively. He is killed by Cu Sith during the events of From Hells Heart.
  • Occam, not much is known about Occam, it was initially believed to be a collective of hackers, but was later revealed to be a single adolescent, out to make money, however he has used his influence to ensure various lowlifes are arrested and imprisoned. Despite this his methods put him at odds with the law and despite having a clear photograph and DNA samples, no results have come back from any databases on the entire planet. To the world Occam is as faceless as his iconic online persona. Joins the SIS after the events of Built in a Day.
  • Chloe Mason A.K.A Swyft, a thief-for-hire before The Wave gave her above average speed and stamina, she uses her new ability, as well as a durable and light wingsuit to glide into high rise buildings and high tech locations to quickly and quietly snatch-and-grab, she is not without her morals though, and will ensure any important information or items that need to be given to the SIS are left with 'the right people'. She is hired to work for the SIS after the events of Built in a Day.
  • Yuriko Ivanov A.K.A Minx is a Japanese-Russian assassin unaffected by The Wave, her encounters have left her wary of any kind of superhuman, she seeks vengeance against her husband for faking his death and leaving her to look after their dying child, she take jobs to pay various detectives, thieves and hackers to locate her husband, who seems to have vanished into thin air, she keeps Swyft, Fliquor and Occam on speed dial as she relies on them almost to the point of trusting them. She is hired by the SIS after the events of Built in a Day.
  • Arnold Schyster A.K.A Gravitas is a South African dictator. This is due to his powers of Mind Control and Vocally-induced Hypnosis, which he got from The Wave, but did not develop until recently. His powers adequately make up for his physical frame which is paralysed from the waist downwards.
  • Alisha Jones A.K.A Redback is an Australian assassin, who previously served as a Sniper in the Australian Military. She seems unaffected by The Wave, but this could simply be her powers have not yet developed. Regardless, her skill with a gun and extremely accurate sense of sight has put her at the top of the SIS' to recruit list. She joins the team, temporarily, during the events of From Hells Heart.
  • Marshall (last name unknown) A.K.A Lupus Lunar is a Mexican cartel member who is also a Lycanthrope, or Werewolf. While working on the Texas side of the border beteen the U.S and Mexico he was captured by game hunters and taken into custody by the SIS, who conscripted him into their team due to the shortage of field operatives after the Built in a Day storyline. He frequently fights with Nightchild, due to the ever present rivalry between Were-Beasts and Vampires.
  • Moonshine is the undead body of Sunburst, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Officer Shade is the undead body of D.I Noire, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Otto Madman is the undead body of the Janisarry, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Mr Orca is the undead body of Barry Kuda, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Red Rufus is the undead body of Romulus, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Grey Canis is the undead body of Remus, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Black Current is the undead body of Electrode, being controlled by Cu Sith.
  • Cu Sith is a Superhuman of unknown origin, his powers are wide and varied, but seem to include being able to resurrect the dead, Transfiguration, Teleportation and Intangibility, the few people to see this being and live say that they feel only death when the look at him.
