History

Spent five years of my life trying to bring down crime, yet chaos just seems to keep on growing nonetheless, like a blister, or a tumor. Looking back, it was like nothing mattered. That was until I realized that the only way that makes those monsters keep in line, is if I join them as well... To extinguish the flames of chaos, you establish order by stepping on their skulls. Put pressure until they beg you to stop. That's what I do, what we do. Bringing pain and terror to the wicked and letting the weak submit themselves to our power. At least, living feels more fun that way.
-- Owlman

Thomas Wayne, Jr. was the eldest son of praised and influential Gothamite multimillionaires, Thomas and Martha Wayne, and the older brother of Bruce Wayne. However, one fateful night changed him forever when he witnessed both his parents and younger brother get gunned down by a gangster who was hired by a crime family due to their bad blood with his parents. Left as an orphan, a traumatized Thomas was raised under the care of his strict legal guardian and family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as he also began training how to fight for himself before traveling across the world to learn from different mentors and killers in his lifelong goal to bring the wicked and criminal to justice while the system failed the victims like himself.

However, Thomas' obsession with overcoming his trauma and frequent projections of grief had also led to him becoming more ruthless and volatile that with every failure he had with exposing criminals and wrongdoers who had connections with the corrupt officials of Gotham, the more he was likely to "finish the job" and just kill them out of spite instead whenever he snapped and slowly lost hope on the justice system. His acts of killing even made his uncle Alfred gain his respect for him over time, believing that Thomas had the guts to get the job done, even though he simply believed that it was everything he knew and had been fighting before was pointless. Starting out from dealing with henchmen and petty crooks under an anonymous disguise, Thomas would upgrade his equipment and expand his arsenal, including an armored suit whose symbol resembles the very bird that his father had once been telling him in stories, taking on the moniker of Owlman as he began to strike fear into the hearts of every criminal, corrupt individual, and anyone else—innocent or otherwise—who would dare to stand in his way of establishing order under his menacing symbol and his deadly talons haunting and intimidating the people of Gotham at night.

Trivia

  • Thomas is a nihilist, embracing it ever since he gave up fighting crime with moral principles or saving lives without any reward, monetary or something else that's beneficial to him, to his actions.
  • Killing is rarely a problem for Owlman, although a few deaths have secretly bothered or haunted him up to the present. Some of them were his parents, his younger brother Bruce, his ward and first apprentice Rick Grayson (aka Talon), and one of his lovers, Maggie Kyle (aka Ratcatcher), a detective and an enemy to the Crime Syndicate who Thomas had slowly gone attached to prior to her untimely demise at the hands of Boss Gordon, leading an enraged Owlman to retaliate by killing Gordon despite their decades of alliance and dealings in Gotham's criminal world.
